Investigation of the Hardness Development of Molybdenum Coatings under Thermal and Tribological Loading

The increasing global demand for innovative and environmentally friendly lubricants can be met through the use of solid lubricants. By switching from conventional such as various oils or grease to lubricants, new scopes application also opened up. main requirements are a reduction in coefficient friction (CoF) an increase wear resistance. Due favourable material properties, molybdenum (Mo) coatings fulfil tribological therefore promising which applied via physical vapour deposition (PVD). In this work, impact substrate temperature on hot hardness deposited Mo was determined. specimen with highest then tribologically examined both at micro nano level. Through analysis tracks by means nanoindentation scanning electron microscopy (SEM), it possible detect influence load separately that thermal loads. results showed influenced coating significantly its hardness. This achieved due work hardening layer leading resistance coating.
